I was contemplating getting my own domain and switching to paid hosting in one of my previous posts. Unlike my friend Syura, who impressed me by daringly getting her own domain merely days after my post, I however, am still not 100% ready to make that plunge!
As silly as it might sound, the idea of hosting my own domain and taking complete responsibility and control is a scary one indeed! Despite the many advantages of hosting your own website such as stability and reliability, customization, unique IP address, better features and security, the simple truth is that I don't have sufficient confidence in my HTML knowledge and skills. Furthermore, I am already very familiar with the layout, customization, templates, and other services I'm currently using with my free web hosting site. A change right now could be disastrous for the less tech-savvy like me! It could also disrupt everything I've accomplished with my blog for the past year. So unless I get over this fear of switching sometime soon, it looks like I will continue filing this topic under KIV. ;)

Oh Marzie! I recommend you to buy your domain name at a bare minimum. It would be terrible if someone gets it before you.
Of course there is Mariuca.com, .net, .org, .biz and so on. However, .com is the main one you need to own.
It is not easy to run a site, and most people do it incorrectly. I have to update my plug ins every day, because new security holes happen all the time.
All the things automatically done for you on blogger, are not with a self hosted wordpress blog. Updating a self hosted wordpress blog can be a nightmare for a beginner.
The 1st time I updated mine to a new wordpress version, took me a few days which culminated in my being on the phone with techs for hours.
If I were you, I would make the new blog a brand new blog and keep this one separate. This one will be here always and maybe you will just have 3 blogs!
If you do start a new blog, there is a plug in called Instant Upgrade which you should install before you write your first post.
This will allow you do do all your major upgrades in seconds, and it tells you when to do it.
Be careful about installing too many plug ins, I know how widget happy you are...hahahahahahahaha!!!

And I remember u having trouble and having to spend hours with ur tech guy on the phone. It's gonna be DIFFICULT for me la Bobby but I have been thinking of starting a new blog and get my domain name for that one. I guess that would be the most ideal solution for me right now.

Or you could be me and in transition. I actually connected my blogger blog to williambuckley.name then last month hosted my own at willbuckley.com now I cannot let go and have been neglecting my wordpress blog because I am too lazy to learn.
It does sound like a good deal, but can you host more than one domain on your alloted space?

I'm with you on this one Marzie. I'm not ready to take the plunge to have my own domain. This blog is just a hobby and I really don't need the added pressure of managing my own domain. So, I'll just stick with this one, it works just fine for me. Why fix something when it ain't broke, right?

Hehe. We just wrote a review on one of the domain registration sites as well. Well we must say that getting your own domain is like a 'trend' among bloggers these days. But we understand that switching to your very own domain is not such a simple decision to make after all. Even we too have been comtemplating about it.
But for us, we felt that we're still very new in this blogosphere, so we should just put it on hold first. It's ok to take your time on this one actually. No pressure! =)
NAFA, it is a difficult decision to make!! I've been mulling this over in my mind many times now, hopefully I'll be brave enough to make the switch eventually, but for now.. I shall take comfort in your no pressure advice, thanks dear! :):):)
